What are landscape construction services?

hardscapes wall patio 325px

Landscape construction services are the phase where your outdoor design plan becomes a real, usable space. While landscape design focuses on planning and vision, landscape construction is the professional installation and building of all the physical elements that make up your property.

These services typically include grading and excavation, which ensure proper drainage and a stable foundation for everything that follows. From there, landscape construction may involve installing patios, walkways, retaining walls, driveways, steps, and outdoor living features such as fire pits, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, and seating areas.

Landscape construction also covers planting and lawn installation, including trees, shrubs, perennials, sod, and seed. A professional crew understands proper spacing, soil preparation, and planting techniques so your landscape thrives long after installation—not just on day one.

Additional services often include irrigation systems, drainage solutions, landscape lighting, and fencing, all coordinated to work together as one cohesive system. Done correctly, these elements improve usability, safety, and long-term property value.

The biggest advantage of professional landscape construction is precision and efficiency. Experienced contractors follow the design plan closely, use the right materials, and build to last—avoiding costly mistakes, delays, and rework.

If you want an outdoor space that looks polished, functions properly, and holds its value over time, landscape construction services are essential. Start with a professional consultation to ensure your project is built correctly from the ground up.

Attleboro, MA

History

In 1634, English settlers first arrived in the territory that is now Attleboro. The deed that granted them the land was written by Native American Wamsutta. The land. It included the towns of Cumberland, Rhode Island, until 1747 and North Attleborough, Massachusetts, until 1887. In 1643, Attleboro was part of the adjacent town of Rehoboth until it was separately incorporated as a town in 1694. In 1697 in response to an unwanted amount of disturbances, mainly from nearby tribes of natives, the town had a meeting and ended up deciding that selectmen would keep tabs on strangers and foreigners as well as banning certain ones from entering the town. The town was reincorporated in 1914 as the City of Attleboro, with the “-ugh” removed from the name, although North Attleborough kept it. In the 1600’s many of the people who settled in this area were from Attleborough, England, after which the city is named.

During the Native American insurgency in the colonial era, Nathaniel Woodcock, the son of an Attleborough resident, was murdered, and his head was placed on a pole in his father’s front yard. His father’s house is now a historical site. It is rumored that George Washington once passed through Attleborough and stayed near the Woodcock Garrison House at the Hatch Tavern, where he exchanged a shoe buckle with Israel Hatch, a revolutionary soldier and the new owner of the Garrison House.

The city became known for jewelry manufacturing in 1913, particularly because of the L.G. Balfour Company. That company has since moved out of the city, and the site of the former plant has been converted into a riverfront park. Attleboro was once known as “The Jewelry Capital of the World”, and jewelry manufacturing firms continue to operate there. One such is the Guyot Brothers Company, which was started in 1904. General Findings, M.S. Company, James A. Murphy Co., Garlan Chain, Leach & Garner, and Masters of Design are jewelry manufacturing companies still in operation.

In late 2003, The Sun Chronicle reported that a state investigation had been launched into the deaths of three women in the city from glioblastoma. In 2007, the State of Massachusetts issued a report concluding that although the diagnosis rate for brain and central nervous system (CNS) cancers was higher than expected when compared to statewide data, the increase was determined not to be statistically significant.

Scorecard, Environmental Defense‘s online database of polluters, lists seven facilities contributing to cancer hazards in Attleboro, including Engineered Materials Solutions Inc., the worst offender in Massachusetts.

In 2002, the Massachusetts Public Health Department was asked to evaluate the former Shpack Landfill, on the border of Norton and Attleboro, for its cancer risks. The investigation continued at least through 2004. The informal landfill included uranium fuel rods, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds.

Geography

Attleboro has an area of 27.772 square miles (71.930 km), of which 26.779 square miles (69.356 km) is land and 0.994 square miles (2.574 km), or 3.59%, is water. Its borders form an irregular polygon that resembles a truncated triangle pointing west. It is bordered by North Attleborough to the north, Mansfield and Norton to the east, Rehoboth, Seekonk, and Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to the south, and Cumberland, Rhode Island, to the west, as well as sharing a short border with Central Falls, Rhode Island through the Blackstone River. It includes the areas known as City Center, Briggs Corner, West Attleboro, East Corner, East Attleboro, North Corner, Maple Square, Camp Hebron, Oak Hill, Dodgeville, East Junction, Hebronville, Park Square, and South Attleboro.

Waterways in the city include the Ten Mile River, fed by the Bungay River, the Manchester Pond Reservoir, and several small ponds.

Attleboro’s highest point is 249-foot (76 m) Oak Hill, in the southern part of the city, north of Oak Hill Avenue.

Attleboro is on the border between the Massachusetts and Rhode Island regional dialects of New England English: the eastern part of the city is in the same dialect region as Boston, and the western part in the same dialect region as Providence.

What is the meaning of landscape construction?

hardscapes 325px

Landscape construction is the process of physically building and installing an outdoor environment based on a planned design. It’s where ideas, drawings, and concepts turn into real structures, surfaces, and planted spaces that you can see, use, and enjoy every day.

In simple terms, landscape construction is everything that happens after the design is complete. It includes preparing the land, shaping the terrain, installing hardscape features, planting greenery, and integrating systems that make the landscape functional and durable.

Landscape construction typically starts with site preparation, such as excavation, grading, and drainage work. This step is critical because it ensures proper water flow, prevents erosion, and creates a stable base for patios, walkways, and structures. From there, contractors install hardscape elements like patios, retaining walls, steps, driveways, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and seating areas.

Once the structural components are complete, landscape construction moves into softscape installation—trees, shrubs, perennials, lawns, and planting beds. Proper soil preparation, spacing, and placement are essential so plants thrive long-term rather than failing after a season or two.

Landscape construction also includes irrigation systems, drainage solutions, landscape lighting, fencing, and finishing details that tie everything together into a cohesive outdoor space.

The true meaning of landscape construction goes beyond just “building a yard.” It’s about creating a usable, intentional outdoor environment that enhances how you live, increases property value, and holds up over time.

When done professionally, landscape construction ensures your investment is built correctly from the ground up—saving money, avoiding mistakes, and delivering a finished result that looks polished and performs as designed. A great landscape isn’t accidental—it’s constructed with purpose.

Why Can’t I Do My Own Landscape Construction?

landscape construction 750px

Our professionals have decades of experience in the industry. Whether cutting a crisp edge to a lawn or monitoring soil pH, our crew has the necessary hands-on knowledge to accomplish any task properly. While the average homeowner can do many of these clean-up jobs, they will inevitably take more time and effort.

Consider this. Let’s say you want to install a retaining wall along two garden beds at the front of your house. One option is to research supplies, create blueprints, develop alternatives, negotiate supply prices, transport materials, and install the retaining walls. Each of these tasks adds up to several days’ worth of effort.

Conversely, you can hire us—your local hardscaping expert—and use the time you’ll save reading a book, playing with your children, traveling, or whatever else you’d like. Meanwhile, our hardscaping team will install a durable and beautiful retaining wall. While cost is always a worthwhile consideration, beyond the time and effort you’ll save, the guaranteed quality is indisputable. We stand behind our work.

What are the 5 typical landscaping construction projects?

landscape construction services 750px

Most professional landscaping construction projects fall into five core categories. These projects form the backbone of functional, high-value outdoor spaces and are often combined into a single, well-planned master design.

1. Patios and Walkways

Patios and walkways create usable outdoor living space and improve how people move through the property. Built with materials like natural stone, pavers, or concrete, they provide areas for entertaining, relaxing, and connecting different parts of the yard in a clean, intentional way.

2. Retaining Walls and Steps

Retaining walls manage elevation changes, prevent erosion, and create level areas on sloped properties. Steps are often integrated for safety and flow. When built correctly, these features are both structural and visually striking.

3. Lawn Installation and Grading

This includes soil preparation, proper grading for drainage, and installing sod or seed. A healthy lawn starts below the surface, and professional installation ensures long-term success instead of patchy results.

4. Planting and Landscape Beds

Trees, shrubs, and perennials are installed strategically for privacy, curb appeal, seasonal interest, and low maintenance. Proper spacing and soil preparation are critical to avoid overcrowding and plant failure.

5. Outdoor Living Features

Fire pits, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, seating walls, and lighting transform a yard into an extension of the home. These projects add lifestyle value and significantly increase property appeal.

The most successful landscapes combine these elements into a cohesive plan. Professional landscape construction ensures everything is built correctly, in the right order, and with lasting results. Start with a consultation to build it right the first time.
