What are landscape construction services?
Landscape construction services are the phase where your outdoor design plan becomes a real, usable space. While landscape design focuses on planning and vision, landscape construction is the professional installation and building of all the physical elements that make up your property.
These services typically include grading and excavation, which ensure proper drainage and a stable foundation for everything that follows. From there, landscape construction may involve installing patios, walkways, retaining walls, driveways, steps, and outdoor living features such as fire pits, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, and seating areas.
Landscape construction also covers planting and lawn installation, including trees, shrubs, perennials, sod, and seed. A professional crew understands proper spacing, soil preparation, and planting techniques so your landscape thrives long after installation—not just on day one.
Additional services often include irrigation systems, drainage solutions, landscape lighting, and fencing, all coordinated to work together as one cohesive system. Done correctly, these elements improve usability, safety, and long-term property value.
The biggest advantage of professional landscape construction is precision and efficiency. Experienced contractors follow the design plan closely, use the right materials, and build to last—avoiding costly mistakes, delays, and rework.
If you want an outdoor space that looks polished, functions properly, and holds its value over time, landscape construction services are essential. Start with a professional consultation to ensure your project is built correctly from the ground up.

History
The lands of Norton remained unsettled by English colonists for many years after their initial arrival on the eastern Massachusetts coast. But by the late 1640s, the townships of Rehoboth and Taunton were looking to expand their boundaries further inland. The settlement of Rehoboth bought the lands north of it—what would become Attleboro—from Wamsutta in the 1666 North Purchase. The residents of Taunton were also looking to acquire more land to develop, cutting the forest back and using felled timber to feed construction and fuel industries, and settle the cleared grounds into meadows and pastureland. Norton was first legally settled by European colonists after the Taunton North Purchase in 1668. This deed of purchase from Metacomet entitled the residents of Taunton to the lands north of their current settlement—the forests, cedar swamps, rivers, meadows, and lakes that would become established as Norton, Mansfield, and Easton. In 1686, more payments to access the North Purchase lands were made by Taunton men to Wompatuck, a descendent of Chickatawbut. During King Philip’s War, “a group of twenty Taunton men, fearing attack” against their settlement “followed the Three Mile River to its confluence… at the Coweset (Wading) and Rumford Rivers and the thick swamp between them,” attacking women and children who were sheltering there. In this fight, at Norton’s so-called “Lockety Neck,” the men murdered or otherwise participated in the killing of Weetamoo, the female sachem of the Pocasset Wampanoag people. There is a memorial plaque on Pine Street commemorating her and other Wampanoag families killed in this attack.
When Norton was first settled in 1669 it was called North Taunton for its location on the northern border of Taunton, Massachusetts. The town was renamed “Norton”—after Norton, Oxfordshire, England, where many early settlers had originated—when the town was officially established on March 17, 1710. Parts of Norton were set out as Easton on December 21, 1725, and as Mansfield on April 26, 1770.
Metacomet, the Wampanoag Indian sachem also known as “King Phillip”, used to camp at a cave made by huge glacial rocks resting on top of each other, just north-east of Lake Winnecunnet. Every Norton school child has been entertained with the legend of King Phillip’s Cave.
The bandstand within the town center was originally erected using donated funds during the first Gulf War, in honor of the veterans who served from Norton.
In elementary school, students were told the story of the “Devil’s Foot Print”, where Major George Leonard sold his soul to the devil. The devil’s foot print can be seen at Norton’s Joseph C. Solmonese Elementary School, on land which was once Leonard’s farmland. Every 26 years, the school unburies a time capsule, the last of which was buried in 1999. The time capsule will be opened next in 2026.
Norton is also a location in the claimed paranormal Bridgewater Triangle.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 29.8 square miles (77 km), of which 28.7 square miles (74 km) is land and 1.1 square miles (2.8 km), or 3.72%, is water. The terrain of Norton is generally low and swampy. The waters of the area are fed by the Wading River and the Canoe River, both of which feed into the Taunton River downstream. The two largest bodies of water in town are the Norton Reservoir, north of the center of town, and Winnecunnet Pond on the east (on the north side of I-495), which is fed by the Canoe River and feeds into the Mill River.
Lake Winnecunnet is Norton’s only natural body of water. Classified as a kettle pond, it formed over 13,000 years ago when a large chunk of glacial ice rested there and gradually melted, creating the lake as the climate slowly warmed.
The town, an irregular polygon generally oriented from northeast to southwest, is bordered by Easton to the northeast, Taunton to the southeast, Rehoboth to the south, Attleboro to the southwest, and Mansfield to the northwest. Norton is approximately 27 miles south-southwest of Boston, and 15 miles northeast of Providence, Rhode Island.
According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Norton has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated “Cfa” on climate maps. The hottest temperature recorded in Norton was 101 °F (38.3 °C) on July 20, 1991, while the coldest temperature recorded was −19 °F (−28.3 °C) on January 22, 1984.

What is the meaning of landscape construction?
Landscape construction is the process of physically building and installing an outdoor environment based on a planned design. It’s where ideas, drawings, and concepts turn into real structures, surfaces, and planted spaces that you can see, use, and enjoy every day.
In simple terms, landscape construction is everything that happens after the design is complete. It includes preparing the land, shaping the terrain, installing hardscape features, planting greenery, and integrating systems that make the landscape functional and durable.
Landscape construction typically starts with site preparation, such as excavation, grading, and drainage work. This step is critical because it ensures proper water flow, prevents erosion, and creates a stable base for patios, walkways, and structures. From there, contractors install hardscape elements like patios, retaining walls, steps, driveways, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and seating areas.
Once the structural components are complete, landscape construction moves into softscape installation—trees, shrubs, perennials, lawns, and planting beds. Proper soil preparation, spacing, and placement are essential so plants thrive long-term rather than failing after a season or two.
Landscape construction also includes irrigation systems, drainage solutions, landscape lighting, fencing, and finishing details that tie everything together into a cohesive outdoor space.
The true meaning of landscape construction goes beyond just “building a yard.” It’s about creating a usable, intentional outdoor environment that enhances how you live, increases property value, and holds up over time.
When done professionally, landscape construction ensures your investment is built correctly from the ground up—saving money, avoiding mistakes, and delivering a finished result that looks polished and performs as designed. A great landscape isn’t accidental—it’s constructed with purpose.

Why Can’t I Do My Own Landscape Construction?
Our professionals have decades of experience in the industry. Whether cutting a crisp edge to a lawn or monitoring soil pH, our crew has the necessary hands-on knowledge to accomplish any task properly. While the average homeowner can do many of these clean-up jobs, they will inevitably take more time and effort.
Consider this. Let’s say you want to install a retaining wall along two garden beds at the front of your house. One option is to research supplies, create blueprints, develop alternatives, negotiate supply prices, transport materials, and install the retaining walls. Each of these tasks adds up to several days’ worth of effort.
Conversely, you can hire us—your local hardscaping expert—and use the time you’ll save reading a book, playing with your children, traveling, or whatever else you’d like. Meanwhile, our hardscaping team will install a durable and beautiful retaining wall. While cost is always a worthwhile consideration, beyond the time and effort you’ll save, the guaranteed quality is indisputable. We stand behind our work.

What are the 5 typical landscaping construction projects?
Most professional landscaping construction projects fall into five core categories. These projects form the backbone of functional, high-value outdoor spaces and are often combined into a single, well-planned master design.
1. Patios and Walkways
Patios and walkways create usable outdoor living space and improve how people move through the property. Built with materials like natural stone, pavers, or concrete, they provide areas for entertaining, relaxing, and connecting different parts of the yard in a clean, intentional way.
2. Retaining Walls and Steps
Retaining walls manage elevation changes, prevent erosion, and create level areas on sloped properties. Steps are often integrated for safety and flow. When built correctly, these features are both structural and visually striking.
3. Lawn Installation and Grading
This includes soil preparation, proper grading for drainage, and installing sod or seed. A healthy lawn starts below the surface, and professional installation ensures long-term success instead of patchy results.
4. Planting and Landscape Beds
Trees, shrubs, and perennials are installed strategically for privacy, curb appeal, seasonal interest, and low maintenance. Proper spacing and soil preparation are critical to avoid overcrowding and plant failure.
5. Outdoor Living Features
Fire pits, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, seating walls, and lighting transform a yard into an extension of the home. These projects add lifestyle value and significantly increase property appeal.
The most successful landscapes combine these elements into a cohesive plan. Professional landscape construction ensures everything is built correctly, in the right order, and with lasting results. Start with a consultation to build it right the first time.
