What Are The Benefits Of A New Lawn Installation?

lawn installation north attleboro wrentham ma 500px

Your lawn is the first thing people see when they approach your home. A healthy green oasis can serve as a ringing endorsement for you and your property. One way to achieve that illustrious look is with a new lawn installation.

New lawn installations require a significant amount of water compared to their traditional counterparts. New lawn installations need watering several times per day to stay moist until fully grown in—that can mean watering 4+ times a day. Additionally, the sod will provide more vibrant and dense coverage.

Franklin, MA

History

History

Franklin was first settled by Europeans in 1660 and officially incorporated during the American Revolution. The town was formed from the western part of the town of Wrentham, and it was officially incorporated on March 2, 1778; its designated name at incorporation was to be Exeter. However, the town’s citizens opted to call it Franklin, in honor of the statesman Benjamin Franklin, the first municipality in the U.S. to be so named.

It was hoped that Benjamin Franklin would donate a bell for a church steeple in the town, but he donated 116 books instead, beginning a debate over who should be allowed access to these books. On November 20, 1790, it was decided that the volumes would be lent to the residents of Franklin for free via its library, which has been in operation since then as the Franklin Public Library. The Ray Memorial Library building was dedicated in 1904. In 1990, on the library’s bicentennial, its staff published a booklet, “A History of America’s First Public Library at Franklin Massachusetts, 1790 ~ 1990” to commemorate America’s first public library and book collection.

The town is also home to the birthplace of America’s father of public education, Horace Mann. The town is also home to what may have been the nation’s oldest continuously operational one-room school house (Croydon, New Hampshire‘s school dates to 1780, but there is debate as to whether it is truly “one room”). The Red Brick School was started in 1792, its building constructed in 1833, and was operational until 2008. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, located in central Franklin and built by Matthew Sullivan, is the largest Catholic parish in the Boston Archdiocese with some 15,000 members.

Most of Franklin lies within the Charles River watershed. Principal streams include Mine, Shepard’s, Miller, Uncas, Dix and Miscoe Brooks. Much of the marshland along Mine Brook has been permanently protected by the Natural Valley Storage Project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The extreme southwest corner of Franklin is part of the Blackstone River watershed. The town has an impounded series of lakes known as the Franklin Reservoir, which is not used as a public drinking water supply. The lakes are now protected open space donated to the town by the late Ernest DelCarte.[citation needed] Significant public forests and parks include the Franklin State and the Franklin Town Forests.

Sod or Hydroseed For My Lawn Installation?

sod hydroseed grass installation north attleboro wrentham ma 500px

At A. Buckley Landscaping, we offer sod and hydroseed lawn installations. Deciding which new lawn installations services are appropriate will depend on everything from the size of your property, the weather, and your budget. Regardless of which method you choose, they both mark a significant improvement over traditional methods.

  • Sod installation involves putting in rolled-up sections of pre-grown grass and roots. Our team will insert and shape these sections in a way that seamlessly covers your property. This method is ideal during cool springs or autumn.

  • Hydroseeding has been around since the 1940s, but the commercial applications are relatively new. It utilizes a slurry of seeds and mulch that our technicians spray over your chosen area. This technique is best suited for the spring and is an excellent deterrent against erosion.

What Is The Process For Sod Lawn Installation?

sod north attleborough wrentham ma 500px

Sod is a straightforward process. We roll out pre-grown grass to cover the necessary parts of your yard. The initial installation requires regular water, particularly during the first two weeks. Additionally, you should stay off fresh sod for the first 10 to 14 days.

New lawn installation costs for sod are typically around 40 cents per square foot. That includes the cost of labor and delivery. The process requires more physical effort than hydroseeding, too, as the sod must be lifted, rolled, and manually cut.

Nonetheless, sod is the quickest way to overhaul a yard. You can have a brand-new lawn in a matter of weeks that is lusher and denser than ever. During the installation process, our technicians will also make sure the soil has the proper pH to ensure long-term viability.

What Is The Process For A Hydroseeded Lawn Installation?

hydroseeding north attleboro wrentham ma 500px

Hydroseeding functions the same way you would water your lawn. The difference is that the process operates on a much larger scale. One of our team members will spray a slurry across bare soil until there is complete coverage. After the spraying process, you should avoid walking on the area until the grass entirely comes through the surface.

New lawn installation costs for hydroseeding are more expensive than traditional methods but less expensive than sod. Hydroseeding typically costs between 9 to 15 cents per foot, depending on the type of grass and other services. For instance, you can opt to include herbicide or other lawn treatments into the slurry.

Hydroseeding is not as instantaneous as sod, though you will start seeing shoots of green grass in seven to ten days. You can expect a more representative look after three to four weeks. Hydroseeding serves as an ideal middle ground between traditional seeds and sod.

Can’t decide between sod and hydroseed? Get in touch with our team at (508) 954-1612 for a free consultation. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.
